In 1994 both Russia and the US gave Ukraine security guarantees, to protect Ukraine if they gave up nucleair weapons.
Signed agreements mean nothing to both the US and Russia. So why would Ukraine agree to be fooled twice?

I do not envy Zelensk. Europe seems the only ally Ukraine has left, basically it has been clear for a while which side Trump is on.

I do not envy Zelensk. Europe seems the only ally Ukraine has left, basically it has been clear for a while which side Trump is on.
