Still processing someone born in January 1971 as being 55.

And by yesterday, I meant today (Wednesday)... I always do the puzz the night before (an advantage on living in Pacific time).
January 8, 2026 at 1:05 AM
For what it's worth, on Wednesdays I assess the length of the down answers. If they are mostly 3-5 letters, I give it a go downs-only. On rare occasions I successfully complete it. But yeah, not a typical Wednesday practice, and yesterday didn't meet by criteria to even try!

I assume Google has (had?) metrics to evaluate the quality of their search results. Now they put the AI Overview above the actual search results, and it is just wrong on a regular basis (25% of the time?). They've completely devalued what used to be a good product.

I tried several spellings assuming I'd just spelled it incorrectly on my first attempt. Alas, no. Google tells me it's a British word.

I had a small chuckle at one of today's pangrams though.

Get the ball to Jimmy, win it on the free throw line.

Brutal officiating. Embarrassing.

Definitely not, just notable that they are already capturing that data.

They're using Statsig evidently.

Network activity when a link is clicked:

Interesting. 100% agree it's a non-starter if people's browsing behavior would need to be exposed publicly.

For what it's worth, they do appear to capture link click behavior, though of course I have no idea what they do with it.

Could Bluesky not just keep track of that behind the scenes? I'd assume they already capture that in their tracking data, no?
January 6, 2026 at 12:46 AM
Yep, absolutely.

I like this, but one valid argument against both this and the basic proposal is that the user may have already read the article via some other source. Still...

I mean, it wouldn't be the most complicated to code, and we already have other options to limit who can reply, so straightforward to extend that UI.
January 5, 2026 at 11:15 PM
Proposed bsky feature: allow poster to limit replies to only those people who have at least clicked the link.

How a QB can play 17 games and only get 1 rushing yard is beyond me. I mean, you'd think even a handful of random broken plays would generate more than a single yard.

I forget how bad it is because it's the first setting I change when I get a new TV.
