Recently in Boston. Decided to show my daughter where she was born long ago. Maternity was located here in the 1980s, 5th floor Beth Israel Deaconess. I want it noted that I stopped for a *real* coffee on my way to the hospital, already in labor. After 9 months of decaf, gimme some Dunkin’, please.

A year ago, Prof Jimena Rodríguez (UCLA) invited me to speak on "The Castaway's Bond: Shipwreck & Survival from Renaissance Poetry to the 4th Genre" in the series "El Mar y sus Metáforas". The poster, shown here, offers a detail of a maritime "voto" painted right onto the early modern ship's sail.
