Life imitates art? We love this clip – it reminds us of a scene from our show “New Squid on the Block.” We have a squid riding an orca! We thought it was just fanciful, but…

Today we are working on the color palette for our NEW show. Staying creative is especially important in times of chaos. Staying centered on connecting with youth and families with a side order of bringing #joy. Things are moving along! #puppetshow #art #puppetry #makers

Beautiful. We ❤️ George!
For Valentine’s Day, a different type of love story that still brings a tear to this social media writer’s eye: one between endling Lonesome George and his caretaker, Fausto Llerena.
The Man Who Made Lonesome George Less Lonely
Endlings force us to reexamine animals as individuals. But Fausto Llerena understood that already.

i asked an art elder for reassurance recently, i said “what is the role of the black artist in times of fascism?”

he said: “to create a world for us to imagine and calculate through art.” for me, my task remains that simple.

It’s nice to feel needed.
It may feel weird or somehow improper to talk about your art or your writing, but we need it. It can’t be wall-to-wall nightmare all the time. Art is both counterweight and context. It’s escape and enlightenment and a mirror of our own exasperation. We need it. We NEED it. Keep showing us.

Bingham started doing these drawings two days after the fires began. She realized she couldn’t afford to donate to all of her friend’s recovery funds. So she put out a call on Instagram asking people to send her pictures of their homes, which she'd draw for free. via @kcrw.com
An artist gifts 1,000 drawings of homes destroyed by fires
One artist’s offer to create free portraits of homes destroyed in the Palisades and Eaton Fires generated hundreds of requests.

Had an amazing performance today for a preschool group in #RVA. In “Can’t Catch Me!” I use (mostly) object puppets. I love being able to introduce this style to open a conversation about the definition of Puppetry. It‘a more than a fuzzy face with big eyes. #Puppetry #PuppetShow #Puppets #Puppet

Planning. Sure, there are apps, but a plan on paper is more tangible. We started using this board in 2024, and it has made a huge difference with “all the balls in the air.” Going into “build mode” for a new show means this board will be crucial.

Puppet prototyping. So necessary! Working on a brand new show. Script is at 70%; stage design is at 80%; puppet design work is at 10%; puppet prototyping is a measly 5%.
