I enjoyed most of the required reading for high school English class, but Madame Bovary was a slog! My favorite was Tess of the D’Urbervilles - sexy! Probably banned today …

You’ll probably get a zillion recommendations on this post but for your next Stephen King, try one of these:

Under the Dome
Fairy Tale
Cujo
The Stand

I just watched 2073 on Mac. A remarkable documentary that encapsulates “how we got here” - I learned a lot but I’m not sure I’m glad I watched it.

Ha! I was always scared to do it!

Although I found a new candy bar at Mast General Store - chocolate cheerwine - with cherry pop rocks - yum.

The worst day since Jan 20 for me was the day the Covington & Burling EO was issued. I felt physically ill but hoped bar orgs & law firms would resist. Today is a new “worst day”. If a big firm like Paul Weiss can’t fight, what hope is there for small firms, public service lawyers, etc.?

If you eat Pop Rocks and drink a Coke, your stomach will explode.

Personal liberties. Hmmmm…. So respecting pronouns and leaving abortion decisions to women and their doctors, right?

I just had this conversation with someone who said if we get 80% of people vaccinated it’s enough. I argued that might work statistically but does not help someone who can’t a vaccine because of a medical condition who could be exposed to someone in the unvaccinated 20%. I *think* I convinced her. 🤞

I loved this book when I was a kid. (I actually still have my copy!)

The Netflix series with James McAvoy and Ben Kingsley is fantastic.

I just finished Fredrik Backman’s My Grandmother Told Me to Tell You She’s Sorry. Swedish to English by Henning Koch. Understated subtle humor is often lost in translation but Backman’s wit is so lovely & clever, English doesn’t ruin it. Reading it, I kept thinking “This translator is a genius.” 💙📚

Just what I’m reading online - I should have researched it further before I posted about it!

The problem isn’t hallucination but what it’s missing. I can verify cites it gives me. A lawyer who fails to check cites deserves what she gets. But what about missing case or statutory law? To catch that, you have to do your own research, rendering LLM useless as anything other than a writing tool.

Right! I went there first then found out about Amazon. Went to ThriftBooks today and got excited and ordered some books and now it looks like they are Amazon, too. So frustrating! I want to buy used books online. Why is it so hard? I thought there were laws against monopolies in this country. 💙📚

Thanks for this. I usually get books from the LFLs in my neighborhood but when I get one I like I buy used copies of the author’s other titles. My local bookseller doesn’t carry used so I was pretty much stuck with Amazon. After seeing your comment I went to ThriftBooks and bought FIVE new books. 💙📚

Hey! I just found ThriftBooks. I ordered 5 used books at very good prices- and they have a rewards program. I’m hoping this will be a good alternative to Amazon. 🤞
