“It was late May, housecleaning season, when Roger fell in love with a woman at the dump. He never saw her. He just liked the way she threw things away.” Quite a Year for Plums by Bailey White.

How could I not spend the entire day reading this book?

I’m rewatching Malcolm in the Middle and I love how Hal plays all sweet and innocent like we don’t know about that batch of meth he’s cooking up in the shed out back…

Upon this response, JK burst into a million shards and a great wind scattered her unhappy soul beneath the arc of a newly formed rainbow.

Me (seeing a potted plant at CVS register): Nice plant.

Cashier: My mama had to get rid of her plants ‘cause they were making her sick sucking up all the oxygen.

Me: Plants don’t suck up oxygen. They suck up carbon dioxide & make oxygen.

Her: Everybody’s different.

Me: You’re right about that.

Whether you observe Lent or just celebrate Mardi Gras, maybe spend 40 days thinking about how this utterly valueless item causes such harm to the environment - from manufacture to transport to disposal. #BanTheBeads. (Pics a week after my neighborhood Mardi Gras parade last year🤨)

Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny have both aged so well. So why this promo that makes them look like a woman with pink hair and face tattoos just walked into their church?

So many people are complaining that they couldn’t understand a word of Kendrick Lamar’s lyrics in the Super Bowl halftime show. Am I the only one who couldn’t understand a word of Ben Affleck’s Dunkin commercial?

Working on a gloomy Saturday after three weeks of a cascade of horrible news listening to Classical California KUSC trying to drown out the neighbor’s dog’s incessant yapping and Hagrid’s Theme starts playing. For just a moment I was transported to a safe, happy place.

I don’t recall what the Paper Wrap event at fifth grade Field Day was, but apparently I excelled at it.😬

A fire, a blanket, and a book recommended on #booksky. What could be better.

Did a bookcase purge. Heading out to distribute books to the Little Free Libraries in my neighborhood. (I will not bring any books home. I will not bring any books home. I will not bring any books home…) 😬

My best friend called me yesterday. When I answered, she said, “You have a collect call from Gilead. Do you accept the charges?” 😂😂😂

Just finished The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins (2015). It was excellent. I would not have found it but for #booksky where someone recommended it. 💙📚

I have this vintage raincoat with the oddest label. It says “Misty Harbor Wish: Health to wear this - Strength to tear this - and Wealth to buy a new one.”

Loving the new Apple Watch the hubs gave me for my birthday. Particularly the feature that tells me to get up and walk for one minute when I have been sitting too long. It’s so convenient because it takes almost exactly one minute to walk from my desk to the snack bar in the break room and back 😬

“Oil can what?”

The funniest line in cinematic history.

The little parish I grew up in held mass in the priest’s basement. My parents loaned these wine goblets for communion. When mom was purging for a move to a condo years later, I rescued them from the donate pile. I no longer go to mass and rarely drink, but I always trot them out for the holidays.

I love reading memoirs. Three of my favorites:

I’m Down by Mishna Wolff

The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls

In The Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado (quite possibly the most extraordinary book I have ever read)

What memoirs do you recommend?

“My great-grandparents had come to Minnesota as part of a mass emigration from Norway that began in about 1880. … I suspected that they hadn’t relocated to the coldest place on Earth and then taken up disemboweling pigs because things were going well in Europe.” Hope Jahren
