On November 11th, we remember those who kept the home-fires burning and those abroad who kept the world from burning. Sacrifices all to attain peace.

Wind blown snow shaped a tree on one of the windows of a house. There is a snowscape at the bottom of the other.

First snow, and the plants are covered with a blanket of fluffy flakes ❄️
Sure hope the fourth Swallowtail caterpillar made his chrysalis last night! The other three have done so already ;)

Happy colourful 1st fall day in November! This squirrel is wisely preparing for cold winter months, in anticipation of welcoming spring in the new year. Forward looking :)

A wonderful surprise on a cool fall morning! Just found three Swallowtail caterpillars dining on dill leaves. Hopefully the caterpillars will produce enough glycerol (antifreeze) to survive frosty mornings. They do look about ready to make their chrysalises, wisely overwintering in Canada 🇨🇦

A beautiful sunny fall day with scattered showers, when colourful leaves are on display outdoors, snd accompanied by Calico corn and handcrafts indoors.

The squirrels know something is afoot weather wise! 🐿️❄️ They have been busy hoarding sunflower seeds and gathering nuts since very early fall 🍁
These two beautiful trees harbour four large squirrel nests, hidden by the colourful leaves.

These wee mice notepads are cost efficient and very useful for listing pertinent information. And did I mention that they bring a smile to everyday tasks? Not for sale ;)

Happy Thanksgiving Day!
We are thankful for food on the table, a roof over our heads and a family safe and sound.

Surprise Bubbles!

Bubbles, the cat running through the vortex to reach a safe place?

Or, Bubbles the dinosaur 🦖 laughing heartedly at a joke?

Or? ….

To brighten the day: the hibiscus waited until autumn to start blooming!
So happy to see their colourful flowers now :)

Junasukka - Finnish Train Socks
During the 1040 Winter War, a Mom was fleeing with her wee daughter by train. A kind woman saw that the baby needed warm socks, so she unravelled her woolen jacket to knit a pair of socks for the baby. Later, both Mom and daughter knit hundreds of train socks to gift!

When I first saw this movie, based on a book by Doris Pilkington, I was glad that we didn’t mistreat indigenous children in Canada. Now I know better. So glad we have #TruthandReconcilationDay across Canada now. I have seen a former school and the crosses marking children’s graves in northern ON.

Happy Sunday! Enjoy this day filled with sunshine and all the summer flowers still blooming brightly throughout autumn, as the trees begin to add their own colours.

So looking forward to enjoying all the changing colours of the leaves this fall 🍁 🇨🇦
And the harvesting of the small but mighty pumpkins. Still time for corn on the cob and corn in the freezer, ready for winter enjoyment. 🌽

“An apple a day keeps the doctor away!”

However, did you know that private clinics can access your medical and pharmacy records?
And, when the (distanced) doctor’s “assistant“ called to ask health related questions, his responses included “Oh hell, no worries and gosh”. Not professional at all. 🤔

I just read the Wildfire Smoke Guidelines on WeatherCAN and checked the website Canada.ca for more information.

What's with this?
There is NO mention of using N-95 masks 😷 to protect children playing outside, or adults outdoors. There should be.

And yet …

On Saturday, I was amazed at the plethora of green cars on the congested DVP and the 401. I counted 54 cars during our short trip! So counting green cars isn’t so hard. I have decided that the counting of green cars is going to go the way of the dinosaurs. 😉
Maybe purple will now be the new green …

All the best to the busy bee teachers going back to school today and working so hard to make the day a happy one!
I am going to celebrate another "first day of unschool" by lunching out with friends to talk about the best days of teaching young students :)
