Crown Prince #MBS repeats in DC the Saudi position to not join #AbrahamAccords before a #PalestinianIsraeli two-state solution. The point I make in my book is this: As long as Saudi Arabia is outflanked by Israel on its right, Iran on its left, it will stick with its position.

The Shah & King Saud who thought Iranian hooligan Shaban the Brainless was planning a coup against him, when Shaban crossed the border in Dhahran with a fake passport and was returned to #Iran. Before this period, Shaban was paid by the #CIA to help oust PM Mossadegh. (pic Gooya)

I think this is King Khaled with the Shah and Empress Farah Pahlavi. The Shah did not believe King #Khaled had strong decision-making powers, unlike King Faisal. This perception contributed to disagreements over oil prices. (pic Gooya)

The Shah turned down a trip to Saudi Arabia when King Faisal hosted Bahrain's leader prior to its independence. King #Faisal did not take offense & insisted on brotherly diplomacy with Iran. He played key role in the Shah's decision to agree to Bahrain's independence. (pic Gooya)

A younger Shah looked up to King Faisal, an experienced leader and soldier. King Faisal showed great respect to the Shah, but found him to be unable to make up his mind easily on key issues, like #Bahraini independence. (pic Gooya)

In a forthcoming book chapter @CornellPress on Iran's Look East Policy, edited by Dr. Mehran Kamrava, I explain the dynamics of the Russia-Iran-Ukraine ties, an example of which was displayed today in a military parade in Moscow.
