it's been 12 months since Cohost went down.
the grief still hurts like a lost loved one. it stretches the time from months to years in my mind. there has been nothing like it since. i've thought of it every few days since.
i remain honoured to have been a tiny, tiny part of it.
i miss it dearly.

The result was a place where *what was posted* mattered more than *how it played*: Funny stuff, informative stuff, personal stuff, batshit nonsense, whatever. It was a place for you to share *stuff*, not to play a metagame of farming likes and engagement.

For the last 2 years, Cohost, the site that had roughly 200k users, is where I got most my money from. These sites with their ads and algorithms and influencers are all lying to you. You can find community without playing the game. There are still ppl out there who care about art!
This all the way. Nowhere else has had anywhere close to the impact on my music sales that cohost has. Like, it was unbelievable to me that I could actually make meaningful money from bandcamp friday, and that's where it was all coming from.
the hardest thing to adjust to is going to be posting to places where I get like a 4-5% clickthrough rate for my promotional posts instead of, like, 20%. the way people curated their feeds on cohost meant that anyone who saw me try and promote something actually cared about it and often clicked
