There are little murmurs from the other guests as Ed and Stede walk around and interact with the displays, immersing themselves in underwater worlds. Near a back corner, two humpback whales, a mother with her calf, swim closely beneath the water’s surface. The calf stays hovering above the mother as she guides the way, sunlight from above glimmering on their skin. All of a sudden, rumbling coos fill the space, playing along with the calming ocean music. “Incredible, aren’t they?” Stede murmurs beside Ed. “My only regret is that I’ll never get to hear a whale song.” Ed’s eyes remain glued to the screen, and he holds himself tighter. “You’ve never heard it on a cruise before?” “No, sadly. It’s nearly impossible to hear them. It’s amazing, actually. Whale songs can be transmitted four times faster than in the air, but the water’s barrier prevents them from being heard above the surface.” Stede sighs deeply to himself, filled with tender melancholy. “I guess it’s better that way. Some things are too beautiful to be meant for us.” Ed swallows deeply as he considers this, but while he’s distracted, he fails to notice the calf swimming off by itself. The projection focuses on the calf, and suddenly, the whale song seems much louder and sharper, almost like the baby whale is crying… lost and alone… searching for its mother in the great, deep blue.

I remember reading this fic two years ago. I was on vacation, reading it on the porch in a cabin in the mountains. It's now two years later. I am on vacation again. At the exact same cabin in the mountains.

Anyway, it's a great fic. You should definitely give it a read or listen (or both)!

First time doing a #WIPWednesday. I've been slowly working on this for over two months now and hoping it will see the light of day soon!

I'm sending the crew into Yellowstone in 1870 (before it was a National Park). What could possibly go wrong?
The next to arrive was Stede's assistant, Lucius. He huffed, put a hand on his hip, and tilted his head to the side. "So, I guess we're really doing this, then?" he asked. "Yes, of course we are! I think it will be fun, don't you?" Lucius rolled his eyes. "A month in the woods. Fun? In what world do you think—" "Oh, good! Everyone's here already," said Cornelius Hornberry. "You see, Wellington? I said they would be." The shorter of the two men, Henry Wellington, shifted his pack over his shoulder and stared at the others in an unfriendly manner while his companion beamed and waved. "It's so exciting, isn't it?" Hornberry asked. "Yes, I was just saying that!" said Stede.

Looks like I won't be posting the first chapter of my AU-gust fic for the 1800s prompt this weekend, but I'll eventually get it out there. 🤞

I'm trying to be (mostly) historically accurate while also keeping it fun and interesting. Not quite sure I'm there yet, so aiming for mid-September.

"You Drew Me A Lovely Frame" Hey, wanna do something weird? Something that makes both Ed and Stede and us fans happy? How about joining a brand new lovely fandom art project? We want to animate the Beach Kiss from season 2, and wish to invite artists of all skill levels and ages to create frames for that. Frames can be created digitally or by traditional media, drawing, painting, all kinds of crafting, knitting, pearls, glass, embroidery, cosplay, dolls, yarnboys, Legos... anything you want! All we ask for is that you follow the outline of the shapes on the frame you receive, so the finished video will have continuity. This project is open for all ages, so the finished frames must be SFW. And - of course - no AI allowed! Signups will be closed on Sept. 21st, and after that, frames (randomly drawn) will be sent out via e-mail to all participants, together with more info and a link to the project Discord server which will be the main workspace.
