The TJ Ford aura at Texas is just too strong
When Pig died, there was a week of mourning and more than 1,000 people doffed their hats and filed by the black casket, draped with orange and white ribbon.
His gravestone is still visible on campus with the epitaph “Pig’s dead. Dog gone.” 😢

Pig was the 1st athletic director’s dog. The community quickly adopted him, and he roamed the campus as the ‘Varsity Mascot.
Named after Gus “Pig” Dittmar the center of the football team because both he and the dog were bow legged on the sideline.

Even though the team has been the Longhorns since 1900, the first mascot wasn’t Bevo.
It was Pig Bellmont, a pitbull who belonged to the first AD. He roamed campus, lounged in bluebonnets, led the team onto the field, and snarled at any mention of A&M.
