Your obnoxious pony, also on fedi: pony@blovice.bahnhof.cz

(Actually generally more on fedi tbh.)

Prague 🇨🇿, public transit, "urbanism" (complaining), trains, some cloud computing and Linux, cats, little of everything else.
Is this a private single-family house or what is this even.

Lot of fancy prague interwar villas were divided into apartment after 1948, sometimes it became permanent. But those were fundamentally different buildings than mansions, those can probably pretty much just be replaced (not a big deal really? who'd want them anyway).

hm yeah, true, still getting used to that thing existing, but at that point I'd maybe just walk to Masarycka right away, it's not far, just not intuitive
November 12, 2025 at 10:45 PM
I think the Mitte is quite track-rich? Not sure if the inter-station sections are fully saturated.
November 12, 2025 at 10:39 PM
I mean the ticket price isn't like outlandish (unlike, say, the arlanda express), but still. You'd think Vienna can arm-twist the airport into submission and fare integrated sanity.
November 12, 2025 at 10:04 PM
It sucks for transfers from long distance pax trains which go to hbf, so you have to do like two metro trips and then the t-bus, but the rail line will be from Masarykovo nádraží making this transfer kinda even worse lol.
November 12, 2025 at 9:24 PM
is it going to have shorter blocks and no lineside signals?
November 12, 2025 at 9:21 PM
I don't get it, is there some capital investment that must pay off or what, just repaint and refurb it back to a normal rex train, who needs this.
November 12, 2025 at 9:20 PM
tbh for most purposes, PRG is kinda winning in practicality, you get 3-4m peak trolleybus following 2m peak metro, it's not super comfy, but if you have easyjet-level baggage (or even ryanair level), it's more than fine. I don't even feel we need that rail too badly.

I took that train from Mogosoaia on a walking trip, it's just a little DMU that doesn't even have space for large luggage. And I think you have to have a CFR ticket, but it's easy to get in app. I mean, they don't even properly share Metrorex and STB fares yet?
November 12, 2025 at 9:17 PM
I think Berlin has a weaker case to be that hbf centric, most long distance will stop elsewhere and it's not that central hub. It's not even that central in Vienna, except for LD from most of the country, but that's kind of solved by the extended LD to the airport. So maybe it's just confusing.
November 12, 2025 at 9:13 PM
...and of course the premium train that neither runs from hbf or has a sane fare, but is heavily signed and promoted.

So, confusion, split frequency and not great reliability with the long distance connection.
November 12, 2025 at 5:54 PM
Vienna is ig mostly wonky because it's either S7 that misses hbf (and yeah it's not the most frequent thing in the world), or rj[x] from hbf which is not going to be super-reliable, but counterintuitively, it's the same fare as the S...
November 12, 2025 at 5:53 PM
Wonkier than Vienna or about as.
November 12, 2025 at 2:35 PM
Ah yes, buses, cabs, bikes. And also every other regular car driver because the enforcement is virtually nonexistent. Prague classic.
November 12, 2025 at 10:44 AM
Well not really, no, but it's asking a different why, which is not why there would be a drop in the eagerness, but why it was (and still is) so high before.

I find Americans to be extremely willing to have roommates compared to Europeans. Like, ridiculously more willing. Most people I know would (including me) would rather starve than have roommates.
November 9, 2025 at 4:21 PM
It’s kind of ok for me on either system, though I struggle to make it look good because of scaling (can’t really run it in native 4K).
November 9, 2025 at 8:03 AM
But it runs perfectly fine with steam, so it’s not a big deal, most people won’t even tell.
November 9, 2025 at 7:54 AM
EU4, Stellaris and even Victoria 3 have both native Linux and macOS versions. I can kinda understand they’d not do the Linux native as now steam with proton can play almost anything these days, but Mac? Eh.
November 8, 2025 at 10:43 PM
oh damn, apparently there is no linux native and no macos even for eu5 now? what a shame, i mean, steam will probably run it on linux just fine, but i now got a macbook and this is maybe a game i'd want to play there, this sucks
November 8, 2025 at 10:31 PM
just wait how fast it runs in late game (though i imagine this is more like stellaris problem where the pops and fleets explode and it all grinds to halt)
November 8, 2025 at 10:25 PM
They are on the grind.
