Urgh...does it have the acoustic signature for asw work and the helo pairing to make it like any good?

Constellation class cancelled! Wow

If you're having to explain it to members of the US defence establishment then that is a worry. Less so some ransoms in the coffee shop.

NATO is a symptom of shared interests and willingness to cooperative rather than the cause of it. What creates the conditions for shared interests and cooperation versus competition and rivalry Is political rather than military.

It would be fascinating to hear more reactions from the continent to 1807. Although perhaps the context of war is relevant in both 1807 and 1940. For it is notable that the RN was not ordered to Copenhagen the imperial German navy in pre war periods.

Exhausting isn't it

The physics teacher wants a word but budget wise it makes sense.

Except it misses the key point. It makes a first nuclear strike pointless because of the retaliatory strike. Even if the UK is destroyed by russian ICBMs, Russia will in turn be destroyed by trident fired from submarines. So it deters a first nuclear strike and keeps any war conventional in nature

I thought the Danes were looking for an AAW focused vessel...type 31 would need some upgrading to meet that spec.
September 2, 2025 at 7:59 PM
Presumably type 45 is a bit long in the tooth for the Danes?

The potential for a Merlin buy is interesting. Up to six ships, so up to maybe 9 helos (guessing). Or will Norway look at RN/Peregrine and think the future is UAV deployed sonar bouys and simple help delivered torpedo, or even UAV/Asroc as a combination.

Should be deliverable as an existing and hot production line and no design changes and earlier delivery timeframe...in comparison with Hunter class frigates which have many adjustments and a local build, and SSN(aukus) which is more than a decade away, local build, and incorporates USN technology.

Really brilliant news for both countries and bad news for our adversaries...

4/4 That countries who challenge freedom of navigation know they cannot isolate and overwhelm single navies because their adversaries train and expect to support one another to maintain it.

3/4 practising the capability to deploy at extreme distance, in the context of being able to deploy and sustain effect should we need to anywhere.
