...whereby services degrade more and more as value is extracted by the owners, ie things really were better back in the good old days. Facebook actually was better ten years ago, etc. This explains some of the current nostalgia humping. The rest is (mostly) terror at the pace of change.

But it gets worse, any business that sticks with people will likely be at a growing disadvantage. You could go open source, but if proprietary AI is even marginally better then anyone using it will outperform you. So how to stop OpenAI et al from owning everything? Regulation? Hope AI hits a wall?
