Lover of rodents who researches alcohol use and social challenges, and aggression. Also an amateur bassist.
I read through this on the wiki back in 2023. There are very few stories I’ve enjoyed enough to read a second time. That being said, I look forward to my revisit. @qntm.org

She did the classic Twitterism of walking back her original thought and acting like everyone else just misinterpreted what she said or something

It’s basic but the last Zampanó poem in the Appendix goes so hard. It makes the whole book come together IMO if you buy into the interpretation that Zampanó is just a character made up by Johnny and the only 100% genuine part of the entire book is his mother’s letters.

The good news: Monster with NO caffeine exists!

The bad news: you’re better off drinking Four Lokos

Final note: I didn’t delve into the political aspects of this (deeply) political tale, frankly because I felt like I didn’t have anything meaningful enough to add, so I would like to post the authors’ acknowledgements and the donation links they provided. (23/24)

My only gripe with the entire story is this sequence right here. Orphan-Maker is saying a mouthful here, and I feel like if Daisy really knew better then she’d probably stop at the “*wait*”. I could also be interpreting this sequence wrong, but I’ll see when I listen to the audio drama adaptation.

As someone who studies substance use disorders, I think the depiction here is incredible. SUD’s are often heavily stigmatized—more often than not they’re chalked up to a moral failing, a simple lack of discipline, when it’s much more physiological than that. (18/24)

This is probably my favorite snippet. I don’t have much to say about it that I haven’t already said (or will say elsewhere), so I’ll let it speak for itself. (17/24)

As I said before, Fuckhead and Daisy’s dynamic is great, probably because they’re foils who can both be described as “vicious and full of love”. I ship them. That being said, I felt uneasy reading parts like the one below. (15/24)

The opening lines are great. Right off the bat, I knew what’s always at the front of Fuckhead’s mind and get a great view of their sensation of being detached from their own body (something I’ve definitely felt before, which might have helped), and that sensation stays for the entire story. (12/24)

The visuals that show what Fuckhead sees are also a treat. It’s a unique style that brings to attention both their augmentations and the sensation of being a passenger in their own body caused by said augmentations (and probably the FURY). (8/24)

Daisy’s design is also one I can get behind. The absolute beefcake of a woman, with her brooding demeanor and the heavy weapon over her shoulder, I could guess pretty quickly what her special talent might be. (6/24)

First off, the character designs are all great. All the depictions of Fuckhead themself accentuate their derealization and general lack of concern for “their” body (because it doesn’t feel like theirs anyway). With this one in particular, I love… (4/24)
