Do you occasionally think you're living in a dystopian hellscape but don't have the ability to "see" it because of "privilege" and mass media and mass entertainment?

I've had this thought since I was about 9yo and not sure what to do with it.

As corporate media bows to Trump, public broadcasting has never been more important.

A free press exists to question authority and help the public question it as well.

But authoritarians insist that they must never be questioned.

This is the cost of tyranny. deadline.com/2025/08/corp...

An extraordinary weaver, @anneapplebaum.bsky.social depicts a terrifying tapestry of current autocratic power regimes, illustrating in detail how they systematically and strategically pull global economic & political strings to unravel democratic governments, promotion, and thought. 10/10 recommend!

Acutis' "reputation of holiness," part of any saint's cause, has taken the church by storm. He is referred to by many names: the saint in sneakers, the patron of the Internet, God's jester or — as Francis described him — the saint next door.

Medicaid transformed Charlie’s life, and made it possible for him to play on the playground with his friends.

Now, Republicans in Congress want to rip away his health care.

Republicans are too ashamed to even look Charlie in the eyes.

My sole note from my 4 kids, ages 4-14. I will forever treasure this simple and genuine card from #3. She made it happen, without any whining from me or mention from dad, done secretly with thoughtfulness and honesty.

this is legitimately evil
Just to be clear, this is a violation of the fundamental ethical principle in clinical trial design called "equipoise."

Equipoise means that no-one is exposed to excess risk just to test the therapy. That's specifically *why* vaccine trials don't use placebo arms.

Ethical violation as POLICY.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr will require all new vaccines to undergo placebo testing, WaPo reports
U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr intends to shift the way vaccines are tested, The Washington Post reported on Wednesday, citing a spokesperson from the HHS.

Trump is trying to deregulate crypto as his personal businesses get more involved in the industry.

He also just gutted the DOJ team that investigates crypto fraud.

This may be one of most overt conflicts of interest in presidential history and it's hardly a blip on the news.

THIS IS TERRIFYING‼️

Dr. Peter Marks, former head of vaccines at the FDA, just had his last day—forced to resign or be fired because he wouldn’t lie about vaccines.

He gives a chilling warning: the U.S. is unprepared for biowarfare—because the response team has been gutted.

Why Cory Booker’s Speech Matters
Booker didn’t “accomplish” anything. He was a voice of one crying in the wilderness. And that’s how you build a dissident movement: with simple acts of witness.

My kids have been writing about the preamble to the US constitution. Specifically focused on the promotion of justice, tranquility, welfare, liberty. They ask if Trump has done anything so far to support those ideals. It has been sad to discuss all the ways in which he hasn't.

Americans need to remember that one of the first things the 1st Continental Congress did as we prepared to break from Britain was to establish a post office. Our Founders understood the need for an independent means of communication that wasn't controlled by tyrants or special interests.
