I try to get all new footwear from rei because they have such a great return policy if you’re a a member and my feet are so fussy.

I love the discontinued Vasque Lost 40 boots (some are on eBay). I avoid puddles because I’m not 100% sure of their waterproofness, but they’ve never soaked thru in years of wearing them. The width is ok for my calf size but it might not work for all wide calf people.

Not sure about flu shot this year, but the reaction to the COVID shot will depend on your immune system and which one you get. Novavax historically often affects people less, and moderna has a new one (mNEXSPIKE) w/ a more effective smaller dose; idk how the after effects compare to regular moderna
