Also if it's one of the low ones that require you to put your tire between two bars and my 2.5in tire is too fat I just have to abandon mission. Can't get on the bus with my bike because of my fat tires.

Location relative to windows and doors (or preferably inside a business) is the most important, bc it determines whether the rack is secure against lock cutting. I hate leaving my bike locked up at the corner of a building where it's only visible to traffic and road noise can block out cutting noise

If they don't see protests in person or have friends who attend, the idea of protesting they get from TV (especially after 911) has been "what if those anarchists show up and throw bricks and we all get pepper sprayed because of the real bad guys, the unhinged protestors?"

The main issue is that at some point after the stage where civil rights protests kinda worked, the media realized that instead of reporting on the demands of the protestors they can turn it all into a 'debate' over whether the protestors are dangerous and deserve to be attacked by police.

It might have been possible, but then a ton of the people who were doing stuff about it as it was happening died in the AIDS crisis. People like Leonard Peltier spent fifty years in prison. Lots of other violent suppression of protest happened, but...

The teenage yelling that means "either fight me or fuck off" is one of the hardest things for me as a middle school teacher who hates noise. I'm so impressed by parents who deal with it all year <3

yknow that "your brain isn't fully developed until your mid twenties" thing? i could feel myself developing the ability to wake up without hitting snooze over the course of like 6 months when i was 23-24. it felt like starting a new medication but it was just my frontal lobe clicking into place.

as someone who still doesn't eat breakfast and sleeps in until i have just enough time to change my clothes and get to work, you're right, she's not going to change anytime soon.
when i was like 24 i started hitting Snooze slightly less, and that's the most i've ever improved at morning routines :P

Yeah, i think the overall effect of the AI slop is going to be that video and photography and writing are no longer going to be the tools of solo studying, and in-person confirmation will become necessary for almost everything.

In 2008 I took an international trip and someone joked to me that I was going to be rejected by customs because my hair was a different color than my passport pic, and i think that was more of a "i hope i get to do this for real" than a joke.

I've already decided against taking domestic flights because of this. After some of the recent stories, I'm worried that they'll just make something up like "we aren't sure if this is your picture on the ID" because my hair and makeup are different.

Also it wasn't an issue when I was a kid, but I've heard "no spending money from a touchscreen" as a good rule for introducing online shopping. (or reducing it if you're an adult with an online shopping issue)

You're probably already doing it right then :) my family wasn't doing this every day, but I remember the once or twice a year that my dad would say something critical of advertising.

Answering questions was always 1st priority, & if the content was inappropriate, the solution was to discuss & analyze it to the point that it would not have the intended effect on me, and to make me see it as an academic exercise instead of the slop/ads/porn/gore the creator intended ppl to see.

Anyway the other important thing is that I was always encouraged to ask what words mean or what video/pictures mean, and never told that I was asking too many questions, being annoying, ignorant, or in trouble for finding inappropriate content.

When I was a kid, my dad would make comments about advertising while I watched TV like "see that bird in the background? every second and every centimeter of the ad is something they want you to see. think about why they decided to show you that".

As someone who is ok at this, I think kids should watch a ton of real live-action video and look at a ton of real digital photos that you have pre-screened. When I was a kid, stuff being on a real news channel or website was reliable as a screening tool. Now you're the screening tool...

if i accidentally go somewhere that charges for water, i don't buy anything else. $3 bottled water means no $9 drink, and i'm refilling the water bottle in the bathroom sink so i don't need to buy another one, and i'm not going back bc that's nasty.

I already have 3 bikes and several large toolboxes and a welder surrounding the coffee table so tbh this isn't that far fetched for me personally. But most people would find this mildly insane.

I could replace my car with a bike camper, but my complex doesn't allow campers in parking spots so I would have to build it narrow enough to fit through a standard door and keep it in my living room instead of a coffee table.
