I had a similar incident a few years ago. A while afterwards I read that motonormativity can cause drivers to think that two lights are a car and make an incorrect judgement on the distance you are away. Since then I only run a single headlight when on the road. Glad you're safe.

I noticed several large trucks parked up along Wellington this morning (engines running of course) presumably waiting to be called forward to the site. You would have seen them too as we saw you there!!

My local MEC (Westboro Ottawa) is also great and will lend you a u-lock too.
