Learning disability & autism - an insightful piece highlighting the importance and need for upskilling all the staff around this.
Time & cost incurred but hopefully a win in the long run due to improved care & outcomes leading to less burden.
Here's a piece I wrote about mandatory training for all health & social care staff about working with people with learning disability & autism - the Oliver McGowan training. Women with LD die 23 years younger than other women, men 19 years younger - is this the answer?

Tomorrow is #WorldDownSyndromeDay! The 21st day of the 3rd month, aa people with Down syndrome have 3 copies of chromosome 21 instead of 2. We wear “lots of socks” to celebrate. Bright, funky, mismatched (not odd!), because different is good, and because chromosomes look a bit like socks 😊

You don't need experience of the issues to see why health check targets for patients who have a learning disability might be useful.

I'm sharing this piece again after reports this is among the goals to be scrapped (by the party of social justice).
