This. We need to educate ourselves enough to take a stand. Not sit on the fence or spread/start from a point of fear that stops ourselves and other people from learning objectively and making this decision. #editing #publishing
Sorry, lovely people, but I'm not both-siding genAI. It's killing our planet, it's destroying people's lives and brains, it's enriching the already too rich. Yes, having conversations about it and educating people is important, but to me, that doesn't include acceptance or working with users.

Session 4 of #EdsGuild2025 Keeping Grounded: Work-Life Balance for Freelancers, presented by @laurapoole.bsky.social. Every example feels like Laura's in my head. 😂 If you're wondering what happened to my live report for Session 3 or this, I foresaw Laura's advice and said yes to resting my hand. 🤷🏾

Such a great keynote address on AI and editing by @janefriedman.com at today's @edsguild.bsky.social Red Pencils conference.

One key takeaway: How we approach the issue is as important as the issue itself.

Keynote on 'Editing in the Age of AI' at the Red Pencil Conference by @janefriedman.com who reminds us of 'Amara's Law (or the Law of Humility): we tend to overestimate the effect of a technology in the short run and underestimate the effect in the long run'. #EdsGuild2025

Session 2 of #EdsGuild2025 Helping Indie Authors Thrive Without a Traditional Publisher, presented by @eilisflynn.bsky.social Takeaways: different author types (newbie, trad, indie, hybrid, veteran) have unique challenges & expectations. Editors need to understand perspectives & customize support.

Session 1 of #EdsGuild2025 Building Bridges: Networking for Freelance Editors, presented by Linda Ruggeri. My takeaways: share positivity and grace in building trust, bring yourself wholly to collaborations, create bridges for and within the community. It takes one conversation step to start.

Are we a flock of editing professionals? A group of edibuddies? An animated library maybe? A bunch of pencils? A query of editors?

@janetwordsmith.bsky.social writes about who/what @editingglobally.bsky.social is, why we've chosen to be a collective and what that means for clients. #publishing
"What exactly IS an editorial collective?" 🤔

Good question! If you've been seeing this term pop up but aren't sure how it's different from working with freelancers or agencies, we wrote this explainer just for you. 👇
