Today is your first death anniversary, janam. I have no words. Just a shattered heart, each piece throbbing love and duas for you.

I never know if Amo’s memory/photo/belonging is going to make me laugh or weep. Ambushed by memories & overcome by love — every day.

May Allah bless you w/a garden of Paradise, Amo. May Allah bless all who love you with sabr jamilah, in hopes of reunion in a place far, far better than this. Ameen.

10 months today.

This is one of my favorite photos of my mom with my youngest sister Amo, who died in May. Coming up on her first death anniversary and a part of me still can’t comprehend it. Perhaps a part of me never will.

Grief is love, and it is permanent and it is so very hard.

Your love life is made up of all the constellations of people who love you & are loved by you.

Don’t ever let anyone make it small. #bloomscrolling

The longer I live, the more deeply I learn that love—whether we call it friendship or family or romance is the work of mirroring and magnifying each other's light.

Fill your well with beauty, joy, & community as we walk & organize together through the tumult. ✨

Never believe the untruth that love is narrow & small, or confined to a romantic partner.

Your love life includes the constellations of people you love & are loved by. ✨

Miss you, Amo.

31 weeks without you.

The last two years, we watched the magnolias bloom, together.

This year, I am alone.

Everything beautiful reminds me to make dua for you.

“Learn to calm your own storm” is so key.

There is healing that happens within the individual, & healing that happens in relationship/community.

But to reach the latter, I had to learn to know & regulate myself.

To become tranquil, reflective water.

Rich convo between Ta-Nehisi Coates/Daniel Sokatch on book banning, emotional history, Palestine, & more.

Give it a listen & then get his book “The Message” or the audiobook (which Coates narrates). podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/c... 📚

Is a family that has lost a member to death like a river remembering its fullest point?

Longing for it, reaching for it, knowing it will never touch that place of completeness again.

Laazim hai ki hum bhi dekhenge
Woh din jiskaa waada hai,
Jo lau-e-azl mein likha hai

Inevitably, we shall also see the day
that was promised to us, decreed
on the tablet of eternity.
