Did I get some jump scares? Sure. Did I enjoy some of the twists in the story? Absolutely. Did I remark that the feminine mechanical enemies that freeze in seductive poses when they're about to attack you are a sign of the developers being a bit too horny? Of course I did, but nevertheless, I did not have an enjoyable time with Silent Hill f.

I had a very visceral reaction to this paragraph.
To put it simply, Silent Hill f doesn't have the same psychological thrill, interesting lore or even likable characters the series is known for. Instead, this game comes off like an early 2000s anime involving Japanese schoolchildren secretly hiding how much they want to kill one another, which makes sense considering the writer of the story is Ryukishi07, the pen name of the author of the Higurashi: When They Cry visual novel series, which is about Japanese schoolchildren killing each other. Just a bit too much on the nose.

The move follows an extraordinary week in the media that kicked off with Kimmel making a somewhat vaguely worded on-air comment on the Sept 15 edition of Jimmy Kimmel Love! about Charlie Kirk's assassin that could easily be read as suggesting the suspect was a MAGA conservative — despite evidence to the contrary.

The following is a deeper explanation and examination of my beliefs. For some this may be reassuring, and for some it may not. Bear in mind, though, that I have as much right to these beliefs as those who do not, and I deserve the same respect and understanding I would give to others. I will not be disparaged or bullied for them, nor tolerate it. Death is a complex topic on which my opinions have definitely pinballed as I've gotten older. What may seem black and white from my initial responses to death is simply that. An initial reaction. That reaction, when targeted at someone whose views are (at least to me) abhorrent and antithetical to civilized existence will almost always be, not celebration, but a sense of relief. But the relief does not come at the expense of the human being who has passed. It comes at the relief of the silence of those aforementioned views. When hate, bigotry, fascism, evil goes silent, I feel relief. I feel relief that those views cannot be expressed. I feel relief that there is one less hateful voice spreading those views. My advocacy is for the silence of hate. For the silence of violence. The paradox of which is that sometimes that silence comes from violence. It is the views on which I focus. In a perfect, civilized world, such views would be defeated through discussion, through kindness, through love and understanding. We do not live in such a world and -that- pains me. And while I feel the relief of hateful views going quiet, I also feel sad. I feel sad that a human being is lost. I feel sad when someone loses their way and preaches a gospel of cruelty, hate, violence to those who are just trying to live their lives. I feel sad when someone, anyone of any affiliation, uses their voice for evil, for abuse, for hate, for oppression. I feel sad because now there is no chance, none at all, for a human being to find their way. I feel sad at the loss that comes from violence on a human level. I feel sad that we live in a world where we cannot come to love one another and let people live in safety and comfort. That there exists ideas and ideologies that seek only to hurt and harm. That those ideas are attributed to groups of people, to labels, to human beings. They say "hate begets hate", and the events of yesterday, and the events we see unfolding around the world for as long as humans have existed is proof of this. Hate kills. Hate poisons and corrupts. Hate destroys lives, families, communities, and individuals. It is a taint on our very humanity. Hate is what Kirk proselytized. Hate is what killed him. Hate is what killed so many children in their schools. Hate is what killed untold scores of black people throughout the annals of this country's existence. I take no solace or joy in hate. Nor do I take it in violence. When I say that the only way to defeat fascism is through violence, I say it with heavy heart and weariness. Because it should not be that way. Because we as human beings should be better than that. We should be open to life, to ideas, to the differences we each have. We should not have hate in our hearts, and we should not hate others for their differences to us. Religion. Gender. Political party lines. Skin color. Ethnicity. All of these things are used as excuses for hate in one way or another. And they know no specific political identification. And they are stupid. They are stupid ways to feel, think, believe, and view each other as human beings. We fight wars over these beliefs. We kill each other over resources, land, imaginary lines in the ground. And every life lost to that violence, to that hatred, to that stupidity, is indeed sad and tragic. In every meaning of the sentiment. So yes, it is tragic that Kirk was lost to violence. I can only hope the world someday sees the futility in all of this hate. And maybe. Maybe one day we as a species can be truly civilized. But it wasn't yesterday. Children were shot mere hours after Kirk was. Today we mourn the loss of more than 3,000 lives. Every day and every week we mourn the loss of innocent lives to gun violence. Not long ago we mourned the loss of two politicians (of which the people calling for love and understanding for Kirk's death took great joy or apathy towards, mind) to the same violence. We mourn the lives lost in the Holocaust, and we mourn the lives lost in the Genocide of Gaza. Violence begets violence begets violence. And hate as so. So when do we finally, as a community, as a species, realize this and shed ourselves of all of that hate? Will it be today? Tomorrow? This week? Next? David Lynch famously said, "Fix your hearts, or die!" That applies to us all. Hate is not sustainable and if we do not bring it to an end it will kill us all. Be good to one another. We all have limited time on this planet, and it is our duty and responsibility to leave this world a better place than when we were born into it. Or there won't be a world to be born into. May we find the peace to exist together. May we be free of the hate that leads to these events. May we be better. May we find the way. I believe we can, and we will.

Dogs are animals. All animals have the possibility of being "dangerous". It's not the animal, it's the humans who raise them.

Like, I cannot stand takes like this because it sounds like it argues that horror cannot do all of the things mentioned. HEll yes it's a horror movie. It's a horror movie that explores black and immigrant experiences. Horror can be allegory! It often IS!
The reason Sinners is so good is that it’s not a horror movie. It is a film about the Black experience, and the immigrant experience in America. It tells the story of marginalized peoples and uses vampires as allegory to tell that story. It is SO much more than a “vampire movie.”
