I think the puget sound gave up after the whole South Lake Union Transit imbroglio.

I can't even be my usually annoyingly positive and perky self about the rain since right now it's too warm to fall as snow in the mountains. Low snowpack means more drought in Western Washington next year.
And less importantly for the world, but important for my own psyche, no skiing.

Of course not. Their entire system is designed for suped up mopeds. Sidewalks. Stairs. Parking lanes.
It's all for the glory of those tasmanian two wheelers.
(I say that with love.)

In Redmond, a Seattle suburb, they've done a fairly good job of building out the downtown core except for the lack of larger units for family's. Our restaurants in downtown see quite a few young families with young kids but when the kids get older they don't have enough room and need to move.

That is the exact phrasing we learned in Marine Corps boot camp.

It has worked great for us so far in Redmond but that's also because of our big electrical draws. We have a greenhouse and multiple grow lights and our bill has gone down from about $1000/month to about $200/month. No issues with the city or PSE either.

Great piece Drew. It almost makes up for your article before the election in 2016 when you wrote how there was no way Trump would be elected. That contributed to my shock on election night after letting you convince me that there was nothing to worry about. It's not like I'm hold that as a grudge

Spark Pizza, in the Seattle burbs, has a covered and heated patio and no other seating and despite the warm and dry conditions every year our sales and traffic drop significantly come fall.
I want and love outdoor seating but a lot of people around here don't, at least when it's rainy and colder.

I'm still not convinced that the batters can really "see" the ball coming at them. Again, wizardy.

It's exhausting, frustrating, and depressing to try and keep up with the current tornado of issues while also feeling like there is much worse to come. I'm feeling impotent in my nice little suburban world where life seems likes it's going on as normal instead of these looming crises.

Yeah, I'd already been overwhelmed with the firehose of chaos today and forgotten about what shit-show crap had happened earlier this morning.

WTF?
September 16, 2025 at 9:41 PM
Holy shit. That makes so much sense and another piece for me to try and understand the hate and loathing that is so prevalent.

I've been waiting and waiting (and waiting). I will finally be able to go into the city in a civilized fashion.
September 9, 2025 at 11:23 PM
I'm giddy with anticipation. Could it really happen? Could I actually be able to take the train from Redmond into the big city? I've been waiting for decades.

The smoke has seemed pretty mellow so far this year. Although the fire maps show it burning and smokey all over Washington.

Marcy and Emptywheel have been a regular read for me. I get a lot out of the analysis.

Yeah, they just look like kids hanging out on the corner. Until they get the order to line up and put on their crowd control gear and become part of the machine.
I know. I've done that as a Marine.
