Huge congratulations to @marinaromanello.bsky.social and the team at @lancetcountdown.bsky.social for the successful UK launch of their 2025 report today. A phenomenal achievement again to bring such a huge body of research together in such a digestible way.

‘Bleak’. ‘Devastating’. ‘Destruction’. Grim words associated with the new Lancet Countdown report that reveals one person every minute dies from extreme heat. And deaths keep rising due to climate change.

London looking particularly pretty in the autumn sunshine today. But with the clocks going back this weekend, this will be the last time finishing work in daylight until spring 😬.

🥳Great evening in Parliament celebrating the launch of the South East Asia Health Policy Network. We heard powerful stories from communities affected by health impacts of climate change, alongside inspiring examples of resilience & determination. Thanks to Plymouth Uni for great event.

Can highly recommend the new ZooTown at @londonzoo.bsky.social. Isla enjoyed dressing up as a vet, zookeeper, builder and much more.

Autumn in Berlin! One of the best things about the World Health Summit being in Berlin is that you can start the day in parks like this. #WHS2025

Physiology took centre stage at the World Health Summit today with a session highlighting the vital role physiological evidence and insight has in keeping people safe during extreme heat - from understanding how the body responds under stress to shaping practical measures that prevent harm. #WHS2025

One of the most interesting sessions at #WHS2025 today focused on global challenges to ensuring access to reliable, quality health information. The key question was how to embed quality indicators into policy, as well as considering the role of scientific journals. Looking forward to day 3 tomorrow!

Day 1 at the World Health Summit in Berlin! I’m here talking to partners and policymakers across global health about the role physiologists can play in shaping health responses that start with the science of how the body works. #WHS2025

I'm looking forward to attending World Health Summit in Berlin next week.

If you are attending and would like a coffee to talk about The Physiological Society's work across areas such as climate & health or precision medicine, please send me a message! #WHS2025

“I want everyone in the country to think of themselves as a scientist. Science can’t be seen as just something done by other people ‘over there’”.

Great reflections from Ottoline Leyser tonight from her time as UKRI CEO on engaging the public with science and developing the R&D ecosystem.

Great to see @physoc.bsky.social President @annieneuro.bsky.social in the BBC News article about this week's Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine.

"A striking example of how fundamental physiological research can have far-reaching implications for human health."

A good science policy trivia question. How many times did recent Prime Minister’s mention 'science' or 'research and development' in their party conference leader speeches?
