I can't imagine feeling fulfilled by telling a text box to generate something like an idea I have in my head. I want to put my fingers on strings, make mistakes, and turn those mistakes into a song. I want to get better at guitar and singing by writing things I can't yet play. That's what drives me.

I saw an interview with Grace Zabriskie and David Lynch where Grace complemented David for being a director who "works with what's there" and embraces limits. I think there's something to that -- maybe we do our best work when it's a battle, and our worst when it's a breeze.
