the handmaid's tale, by margaret atwood | ⭐⭐⭐⭐

a haunting read that makes a dystopia feel like a horror book because, welp, of how reality is going rn. the narrative style was very interesting and while the last chapter wasn't bad, idk how much it adds to the overall story

conclave, by robert harris | ⭐⭐⭐⭐

the intrigues and the twists were fun, even though i watched the movie before reading it. plus the style makes it a pretty quick and light read

#expedition33 joined the "sure, this abbest boss is clearly not meant to be fought right now but I'm gonna do it anyways" team and did it with just gustave and lune

gustave was definitely the mvp here. and dodging. god, so much dodging

things we lost in the fire, by mariana enríquez | ⭐⭐⭐⭐

a compilation of short stories, very good but also quite haunting. a few of them left me wanting for more, not wanting to believe it ended there and didn't keep going. having that happen a few times was frustrating but honestly i still liked it

the legacy of yangchen, by f. c. yee | ⭐⭐⭐⭐

glad i didn't give up on this after the first book, because this was a lot better. more balanced protagonist-wise, even if the ending felt a little bit rushed, i still enjoyed it a lot more than the previous one

the dawn of yangchen, by f. c. yee | ⭐⭐

would have liked it a lot more if it focused primarily on yangchen rather than her new, male companion. big wasted potencial there, tbh

the shadow of kyoshi, by f. c. yee | ⭐⭐⭐

the first half felt super slow, but one it picked up the pace it was quite nice. tbh the main ship carries this book for me, i love them

sunrise on the reaping, by suzane collins | ⭐⭐⭐

i didn't hate it, but i expected more. the cameos felt sometimes forced and unnecessary and some things that go down create some plot holes for the original trilogy.

the epiloge was nice, but either way i'd say the romance falls a bit flat.

the ballad of songbirds and snakes, by suzane collins | ⭐⭐⭐

i don't think we needed a book about him to know snow was a shitty person, but the world building and all the context was cool. though i really wish we switched povs every now and then since snow's narration got very annoying at times

life is a dream, by pedro calderón de la barca | ⭐⭐⭐⭐

a classic, and rightfully so. it lends itself to many re-reads where you take something new everytime.

the rise of kyoshi, by f. c. yee | ⭐⭐⭐⭐

really enjoyed it, the characters and the way they developed through the story was very nice and the romance was lovely as well. the cliffhanger felt a bit dumb tho.

our share of night, by mariana enríquez | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

this book was so amazing i just didn't want it to end. it mixes magic horror with real horror (the hiv crisis, the last dictatorship and missing people from it, familiar abuse) so incredibly well.

the characters are great, it's an incredible book.

the mad toy, by roberto arlt | ⭐⭐⭐

last book of february but one i had to fast-read for work. it was fine, very understandable why it's considered a classic though i believe the first and last chapters were the best ones

a love song for ricki wilde, by tia williams | ⭐⭐⭐⭐

it's weird because this book felt too slow at first, but the latter third felt way too fast.

the characters and the way it showed harlem's culture and history is what made me enjoy the book. seriously, the characters here are pretty neat

the very secret society of irregular witches, by sangu mandanna | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

it's not an earth shattering book, but it's warm and cozy in a way that leaves you with a warm feeling on your chest and i think that is very, very good.

nice characters and lovely magic system too

daisy jones & the six, by taylor jenkins-reid | ⭐⭐⭐

i feel torn on this book. the style being basically the band's documentary was fascinating and fun. and it was all great! until i got to the literal last page and it completely soured the book for me. so yeah, mixed feelings

the first to die at the end, by adam silvera | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

read it all today so i guess you can say this book got to me.

feels a lot better than the first. despite being a prequel, it feels like the board was set on "tbdate" so this flows amazingly.

really excited to read the third book later this year

friends, by aurora venturini | ⭐⭐⭐

tried to give yuna's story a second chance by reading the sequel and while i liked it more than "cousins", the writing style doesn't sit well with me. it's a sad novel that shows the dark side of adulthood and loneliness.

into the dying light, by katy rose pool | ⭐⭐⭐⭐

i enjoyed it a lot and it felt like a great, satisfying ending to the saga. the only downside is that it felt a bit repetitive at times, falling into a loop of failure, hopelessness but something gives us hope again! but alas, i really liked it

as the shadow rises, by katy rose pool | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

now that the board is set the character's development really shines, as well as some great plot advancement that made me devour this book.

some where better than others, of course, but it was very nice to see everything and everyone slowly connecting.

there will come a darkness, by katy rose pool | ⭐⭐⭐⭐

great book, very entertaining. the setting and world building are cool.

the only downside is that it felt too much like this was a setup for what happens next. i'm glad to be reading this when the saga is already complete.

the song of achilles, by madeline miller | ⭐⭐⭐

liked it a bit more than "circe". so it gets an extra star for that.

the pre-war part was my favorite, but i had a hard time connecting with the characters: mostly with patroclus, later with achilles. and when it comes to romance, connecting is key.

cousins, by aurora venturini | ⭐⭐⭐

while i understand what the author was trying to do, the writing style (almost no commas or dots, an absolute flow of thoughts) felt completely asphyxiating.

the plot was good, showing a rough reality, but the ending felt a bit rushed.

the seven husbands of evelyn hugo, by taylor jenkins-reid | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

i wasn't expecting much, afraid all the hype around this book was just that, hype with no substance. i was completely wrong and was unable to stop reading. everytime i was going to stop, another end of a chapter left me wanting more.

little eyes, by samantha schweblin | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

instant favorite, a great analysis of human nature, technology and social roles.

another book with multiple povs, each with no connection to the other that goes over a different aspect of this new technology. absolutely fascinating.
