The Southern Border with Mexico features highly in the fevered imagination of people who do not live in the Borderlands. For those of us who are in proximity to this region, our lived experience is worlds away from the frothing of the uninformed.

As I've pointed out a few times: the generative AI anxiety *competes with and sucks energy from* the energy transition, rather than serving as a sort of 'training gym' for 'building stuff'

Data centres constrain wind, solar, transmission lines etc

This is yet another good example of that dynamic:
The risks of the AI-energy supply chain overlap
Bottlenecks to scaling both industries are beginning to emerge — with copper as the "canary in the coal mine."

"Housty said the Heiltsuk Nation has had to adjust its strategy to continue to try and catch the invasive crabs and keep the bait away from the wolves.

“It’s almost like a daily chess game with our crew and the wolves out there and how we are going to get around them today,” he said."

“He believed in the rule of law and due process,” Martha White said of her grandfather.

(Charlotte's Web, btw, has the best opening sentence of any book. 'Where's Papa going with that ax?' will haunt me forever)

Ep. 1 of @hallierubenhold.bsky.social’s #IntimateHistories podcast really resonates. “History is the story of people, & people’s lives are meaningful & profoundly messy.” Social history, she says, is the counterweight to ‘great man’ history — I think family, local & house historians would all agree.
