What I've read is that light novels often are published online without a description so it's a way to stand out in that environment which then carries over when picked up for adaptation into an anime

The pilot did get an action figure but it didn't include the reflective visor near as I can tell. Honestly this guy's breathing apparatus makes me think this is supposed to be a Kilrathi Marine as seen in the movie intro

This guy's the "radar tech" in the script. You don't even see him in the theatrical cut. Telep turns him into a tactical officer in the novel. I think they were overthinking it. A longer cut with flappy mouths would have had a bit of retro charm that would be more fondly remembered today

They also spent money using CG to touch up the eyes and lips of the Kilrathi so that sounds like a much more plausible explanation for cutting all the scenes with talking Kilrathi... This way they Didn't have to spend money fixing all their mouths

Late to the party I guess.... I need to start posting here more often. Anyway you can tell in that shot that this is actually just Captain Thiraka again, rather than the tactical officer. They moved all the dialogue around when they hacked the scenes up in the edit.
