I'm a lurker by nature, so other than some scant posts about books, I probably won't be reposting.
Read:
Bone by Jeff Smith
Good book, procrastinated too long to read it. Basically an isekai of the Three Stooges in Middle Earth. Strong independent female characters who love each other despite everything, minimal-to-nonexistent romance subplot. 4/5

I'm not often moved by animatics anymore, but holy shit I love how gut wrenching this sapphic jewel is (TW: bury your gays trope, death, blood)

For the first time, scientists say, they have evidence that using a biologic drug to remove sticky beta amyloid plaques from the brains of people destined to develop Alzheimer’s dementia can delay the disease.

Just a non-gentle reminder of this guy's past. People knew who he was and what he stood for. His resume was blatantly clear. Now, he is doing the same on a massive scale and with help.

Finished Legends and Lattes, by Travis Baldree

I enjoyed it, albeit it was a bit of a quick read even for ~300 pgs. Not your typical fantasy adventure; more cozy and cute with a dash of 'the importance of community'. I just wished the main character's back stories were expanded more. 3.75/5

This vid by @mattbaume.bsky.social came up in my YT feed & it's worth your time. 30 years have passed since Pedro Zamora changed the country's understanding about HIV/AIDS w/his appearance on The Real World:SF.

So much for the positive occurred in the wake of it. But... ⬇️

Finished Nightwork, by Joseph Hansen

Not the strongest in the DB series, but he seemed to tone down a few of the problems with his previous entries (too many red herrings, too many characters).
The mystery was one of the weaker ones, but decent characterization; not enough gay content, 3.5/5

Finished The Godfather, by Mario Puzo.

Never saw the film. Picked this up off the shelf on a whim. I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it. It's more than just a crime drama, but a genuine family drama. The characters were very likeable, especially Vito Corleone and his wife. 4/5

Finished Uncle Tom's Cabin, by Harriet Stowe.

Initially it felt sugar coat-y with regards to slavery, but it's a slow build up to the actual horrors of what slaves had to endure. No slave owner is ever a good person no matter how "nice".
Justice for Uncle Tom, he resisted until the end. 4/5

Finished Opening Skinner's Box by Slater.

An excellent inspection of prominent psych research. Covers the nuances of why some controversial experiments were conducted, and also humanized the figures behind the experiments. Still a little pop-science-y, but accessible. 3.75/5

Finished Holes, by Louis Sachar.
Always wanted to read it since 1998, but never got around to doing so. Ended up finishing it in a day and a half.

I'm surprised how much I enjoyed it. It's not just a story about kids and holes, but about two souls fulfilling a generational broken promise. 3.75/5

Finished Dryland's End, by Felice Picano.

Good queer sci-fi novel. A combo of explorative/adventure in an A plot, and space opera in the B plot. The characters were generally fleshed out and likable.
Did tend to get a little too "exposition dump" at times, but good once it got going. 3.75/5
