Membership network for volunteer visitors to immigration detention. Helping those detained in removal centres, STHF & prisons across UK.
ECHR has protected domestic-violence survivors, disabled people fighting cuts, bereaved families demanding inquests, racialized communities resisting police abuse & people in mental health settings facing neglect.

Don’t be distracted. This is a rights rollback for everyone. tinyurl.com/3namk9ss

Thank you to the Casework Solidarity Forum for providing a space to connect, learn from and support each other in an increasingly challenging environment. We were able to hear and speak about how to manage capacity, how we can mobilise as a sector against racism and how to care for each other.

His family are still waiting for answers.

📢 Let Alfred’s name echo beyond the walls of Brook House.

Let it be a call for dignity, accountability, and an end to a system that continues to harm.

Our sincere condolences to his family.

🕯️ Remembering Alfred Dosku🕯️

Last week, we had sat through 5-days inquest into his death. The jury read out their verdict as 'Suicide'.

Just one week after arriving at Brook House Immigration Removal Centre, Alfred was found with a ligature around his neck(09th November 2023). (1/2)

Sad statistics from the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman report: 35% increase in deaths in prison and other custody last year.
At least one death at Brook House IRC which has pending Inquest hearing later this month.

The Labour government must act quickly and now.

But these aren’t accidents of policy. They’re islands of control, purpose-built to isolate

Detention centres like Derwentside, Manston, & Yarl's Wood are part of a carceral archipelago, scattered across the UK, where the state disappears people—often racialised, queer, poor, and marginalised.

Our Director, Gee Manoharan, described detention as a “dysfunctional desert island”—a carceral archipelago where people are exiled, abandoned, and hidden from public view.

Listen to lived experience voices on furthering this notion of what it feels like in our bodies of being detained!

Behind the bars of immigration detention centers, there exists a silent group of mothers who spend Mother's Day in confinement, separated from their loved ones.

🌈Solidarity to them this #MothersDay

🚨 Serving your sentence should mean freedom—not being detained under the immigration acts of power.

This is what we discussed in our regular monitoring meeting of prison visitors groups:
🔴 People detained in prisons don’t always realise it’s happening
🔴 Majority(85%) have no legal representation 🧵

“She is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing.” – Arundhati Roy

Last night, we gathered for AVID’s AGM & the premiere of Removed—a film on the racist, gendered violence of immigration detention

On #InternationalWomensDay, we remember: freedom is not given—it’s taken, demanded, built

Our Annual Conference just wrapped up this week, and we are leaving with fire, strategy and radical hope.
As the UK doubles down on detention, we are growing stronger, bolder & more connected in our fight for freedom & dignity.

🛑 No one should be locked up for seeking safety.

What would it take to dismantle the hostile environment? Importantly, we should ask ourselves what infrastructures we can build to counter hostility?

💭Join us in this 3 day-long event across London, and we will be speaking at the first event at tomorrow at 5 - 7PM.

This 🎄 2,000+ people will spend the holidays in detention.

While we gather with loved ones, thousands endure indefinite detention—isolated, fearful, far from family.

This season, give hope to those left behind.
