If you've used this service to manage handles for your domain, you don't need to take any action. All of the DNS entries will exist on the domains you control. Aviary was just a management interface to your existing domain provider.

Short-term? Unlikely. They have an API but I haven’t used it. If someone has experience with Namecheap and Rust, and was interested in writing that feature, I’d pay them for it.

Yep, full OAuth support. When you log in, either from an invitation link or just by checking out the site, you're authenticating against *your* PDS. Doing so also allows the app to seamlessly change your handle when you accept an invitation to use a domain.

Yeah, the two different methods have their own pros and cons. The only downside to the HTTP method is that it's a (very) small amount of overhead because a DNS lookup will occur before the HTTP request can be made.

Yeah, a lot of people. There are even some domains open to the public like atproto.rocks and dads.lol.

Have you thought about using aviary.domains to give out invitations to people to claim a handle like "@you.wolfbear.club"?
