How did she know his name? Had they met? An old coworker? One of his wife's friends? He didn't have long to think it over. She twisted and swung her body and bumped his trunk with her hip as if that would somehow open it. "Hey, take it easy with the car." He wedged in between her and the trunk. A small smudge was now visible on the otherwise flawless, highly polished metallic black paint. "Look, I don't know who you think I am, or even how you know my name, but I'm not your driver." A mental image of his own suitcase in the trunk from his own recent trip popped into his head. "And even if I was your driver, there's no space in the trunk."

The odor of an unwashed mass of people wafted back and forth across the room as if being batted about in a smelly game of tennis. Fox News was playing on two large, overhead TV screens. One of the talking heads was ranting about some sensational nonsense. As best as Devin could tell, it was a segment about American babies supposedly being sent to a secret lab in Kenya to be trained to be super soldiers and then sent back to America to overthrow the U.S. government. Whatever the segment was about, it seemed to have a calming effect on the gathered detainees sitting and watching. At the very least, it was holding their attention and keeping them from focusing on their circumstances and the reason they were in jail.
