This configuration makes it practically identical in number of seats and layout, to the Siemens S700.

The other big hype was around the suspension. Which should make the rougher ride on the trunk line smoother for passengers.

Stadler gave a presentation today on the new CityLink vehicle they are making for UTA. The presentation confirmed the recent change to transverse seating (For wheelchair access), as well as a design top speed of 65 mph. Also confirming the previously promised 4 bike racks

Some slides from the mayor's presentation include a number of prominent silicon slopes businesses voicing support for blue ext.

Presentation ended with the Lahi mayor asking for a motion for MAG to compel state agencies to reconsider the alignment of the point transit line.

UDOT gave a presentation to the MAG board on the POM transit FONSI...

...Immediately followed by a presentation from the Lehi mayor on why POM transit = bad 🙂 I wish I could get a recording of this.

Interesting slide from UDOT with new blue extension added on to their preferred alt map

FRONTRUNNER 2X: UDOT has posted an RFP for the new DMU facility to be built at beck yard. In there is a date I don't believe I have seen before. anticipated delivery of the first trains is expected Dec 1, 2028

UDOT released the POM transit FONSI. At the end of the document there are two attchmnts describing temporary occupancy of land in Lehi. It would appear that the Lehi Mayor is using this as an excuse to twist UDOT's arm into further considering the Blue line extension instead of the current alignment

During today's Utah Transportation commission meeting, the S-Line extension was passed quickly and unanimously

Well, there you have it. UTA is now showing a new render of the Stadler CityLink LRV which clearly shows it's length has been shortened to match that of the current fleet (~80ft)

It seems the small community of Copperton is looking for a bike path connection between them and the 5600 W TRAX station using abandoned rail ROW that UTA owns. Would definitely be a cool addition 😎

Looks like UTA was able to sell some bonds (I don't know the finance stuff) and is now planning to exercise their options to double their acquisition of Stadler LRVs from 20 to 40. This will allow them to replace the entirety of the SD-100/160 fleet

The Point Transit staff have updated the FAQ section to address the blue line extension in three separate ways. The fundamental flaw in their reasoning is that the connection between Highline station and the point needs to be LRT. It does not. It could be some cheaper gadget bahn like a gondola

An updated FrontRunner Forward document has been released. The document confirms the RFP choice of DMUs. But even more, they confirm the location of the new maintenance facility to be beck yard frontrunner2x.utah.gov/assets/docum...

Wahoo!
July 14, 2025 at 6:11 PM
The first delivery of DMUs according to the RFP is August 2029
July 7, 2025 at 2:33 PM
Another interesting change. The draft RFP included wording that indicated all station platforms would be modified so that the level boarding area could be achieved for 2 DMUs coupled together. The final RFP removes this. So for coupled consists, part of the train would not have level boarding
July 5, 2025 at 6:14 PM
Can confirm this is new. The previous draft RFP released said "Vehicle maintenance facility updates"
July 5, 2025 at 6:00 PM
I'll probably keep updating this thread throughout the day, but here is something I had not noticed before. A new facility for these new vehicles is happening? Is this supposed to be the IPP facility planned for FrontRunner south? Would need some trackage agreements to reach it, so probably not.
July 5, 2025 at 5:54 PM
NEW: The request for proposal (RFP) on the FrontRunner 2X trainsets is now live, and confirms that DMUs will be the chosen vehicle type

2. The steep viaduct over I-15 will be an unprecedented requirement for light rail to navigate. Just extend the blue line, and then put a shuttle service that travels around the point development.
