What’s going on with Uber ? The “match” you with a driver that you can see isn’t moving then, after 10 minutes or so, the “driver” cancels the job and the go through the process again. Drivers never respond to messages. It’s a scam to look like they’ve got cars available when they haven’t, isn’t it?

Every stop on this morning’s bus journey seems to have come as a total, last-second surprise to the driver. @transportfornsw.bsky.social

Logged in to SubStack for the first time in months to find that the discussions are pretty much entirely racists and misogynists now. Canceled my subscriptions and my account. Won’t support anyone who sets up stall on such a hate-filled platform.

Axios talking about how Anthropic can't explain why its Claude AI tried to blackmail an engineer about a supposed extra-marital affair, having explained that AIs are trained by ingesting the internet. Surely the connection is obvious?

A first for me today. Had to wait while the driver rebooted the bus!

I used to hang out on IndieHackers quite a bit, but the increasing enshittification seems to have killed the community side of it. Where are indie-hackers hanging out these days?

Great talks at Raise the Bar Sydney. Who new “waste water” could be so interesting? #rtbsyd

What’s the story with Sydney buses? Why won’t the drivers turn the air conditioning on? The windows of the bus I’m on are literally dripping with sweat.

I just uninstalled an Epson printer driver and it tried to down download the entire contents of my OneDrive folder. WTF? Has anybody seen this before?

Just chased a cockroach the size of a small child out of the house. Everyone tells you about the spiders in Australia, but no one ever mentions the cockroaches. Harmless but horrible.

Article in today’s AFR asks the CEOs of 17 of Australia’s largest companies how to “make Australia great again” and their lack of vision and self-serving answers shows why Australia has so few world class companies.

Watching YouTube for the first time in a while yesterday and I got an advert roughly every 3 minutes. Presumably this is meant to bully me into subscribing, but actually it’s just put me off using YouTube.

From this weekend's Weekend Australian reporting on Star Entertainment's casino business. If ever evidence were needed that a casino's business model is heavily dependent on money laundering, seeing it collapse when the money is traceable is probably it.

But late on this, but I just listened to the Search Engine podcast on the Bull of Wall Street. It went to all sorts of places I didn’t expect. Well worth a listen.

What’s the deal with having milky coffees (think latte and flat white) extra hot? Doesn’t it just burn the milk and make the drink bitter?

Travelling round the UK it struck me how the houses look the same everywhere. It’s like the whole country agreed and half a dozen designs back in the mid-80’s and have been dropping them cookie-cutter style everywhere ever since.
