Earned my black belt in media self defense while escaping from a cult. Tools and tactics for surviving the misinformation jungle and being an effective operator on the culture war battlefield.
The DP is a party of divided loyalties. They pay lip service to the working class, but they serve the elites.

Just like the GOP, if not quite so overtly and blatantly.

And that is why they lose elections. And that is why they will keep losing.

Until they find a vision.

The lack of vision is no accident. Real Dem vision would mean offering solutions to precarity - addressing housing, healthcare, childcare, etc.

But working-class precarity is _good_ for business, good for billionaires, good for the elite.

The Democratic Party... not so much. Not at all.

One reason they spend so much time on "Trump BAD" is bc they don't have an alternative vision to offer up instead.

One reason they take so much flack for "lack of policy specifics" is bc people don't want policy specifics, but they DO want vision.

Yglesias's take seems like the dumbest thing ever (or at least since his last take) but if you substitute "vision" for "detailed policy proposals" then suddenly his statement is 100% correct.

MAGA GOP has always had vision. It's not coherent. It's not good. But it's vision, and ppl respond to that.

it's never a good thing when the idea of bipartisanship is treasured by exactly one party

When Bill Kristol is out there saying sure give AOC a shot at least she fights, I'm just so embarrassed for all these cowardly Democrats who set up their weathervanes inside a basement.

It's the usual fucking playbook and it's what always happens when you take the MAGAs or their apologists even slightly seriously.

It doesn't matter how many elections they win or offices they hold - they are still reality-impaired lunatic fucknuts and treating them any other way is a mistake.

I don't know this particular dickhead, but my general experience is that the difference between a dickhead and a fascist is how much loss of privilege said dickhead has experienced (or thinks they might experience - mere fear of loss is typically enough to radicalize them).

"being born on third and thinking he hit a home run" is what animates and entitles the assholes that do deserve universal hatred, because to the privileged, equality feels like discrimination.

In general you're right except that I think that fanboying on the Claims Adjuster seems entirely appropriate for the time and place.

That's true, as far as it goes.

But it is NOT inevitable to have one of two major political parties, as well as a large fraction of the economy, devoted to exacerbating and profiting from them.

We just accept that as normal because, well, American's as a whole aren't very discerning.

I do not care about Hunter Biden. I don't believe anyone does.

But the pardon was *uncouth*. And the hidden value system of our media and political elites is to defend the social order.

That, more than anything, is why they prove so useless in resisting Trump II.
