Fiber artist and opinionated Minneapolis leftist. Come for the embroidery, stay for the chaotic bisexual energy. BLM - ACAB
Found some interesting history about this guy, from an interview by Carl Ross with D. Alan Bruce in 1989 from the MN 20th C Radicalism Oral History Project. Really bizarre to me the way a whiff of communism got treated in the midcentury labor movement.

This is like Chicago machine politics. Appoint your own replacement before your term ends so you can ensure they will win by default bc incumbents always have a huge edge. I don't want Klobuchar to be governor for many reasons but this alone should be disqualifying. www.nytimes.com/2026/01/05/u...

She was a tiny little five week old kitten when our friend found her crying in the rain, so Lentil felt like the best name for such a teeny baby (also our other cat is named Green Bean so it's kind of a legume theme around here). That was two years ago, now she's kinda big!

This mural legit had a weird and fascinating history, I was sad to see it go. www.tcdailyplanet.net/guns-kmart-n...

Just received this pin which likely came from my great great aunt Mary who worked as a campaigner for women's suffrage in the years leading up to the passage of the 19th amendment. Feels so incredible to hold and feel the history, the visceral sense of how recent this was.

Had a goofy dream last night I walked by the white house and saw that trump was forcing all his female secret service agents to wear basically this outfit with really tight skinny jeans, male agents got to wear normal suits.

This is the first known photo of someone flipping the bird, it's a Bostob Braves team photo from 1886 and I find it damn delightful

Thinking about how when I was growing up you could buy Coke II (aka New Coke) in the Chicago area long after the rest of the country only had gone back to only having coca cola classic. It was cheaper, too.

This is a statistic that lives in my head rent free: the more days someone spends experiencing unsheltered homelessness, the more likely they are to use hard drugs. So the ppl who hand wring about "drug camps" need to be a bit more concerned about keeping folks housed, period.

Really wild scene outside Target Center today (looked it up later and learned there’s a monster truck show this weekend)

Saw a matinee of If I Had Legs I'd Kick You yesterday and PHEW it was was a tough watch but so good. Rose Byrne is fantastic and her wonderfully expressive and natural 46-year-old face really speaks to my feeling that the botox/fillers era is making so many actors worse.

Learning about the 1970's when Emily Koski's dad Al Hofstede unexpectedly beat the incumbent mayor, a cop named Charles Stenvig (architect of the city charter police quota) and holy crap I feel like you could have written this exact paragraph about Frey this year. www.minnpost.com/politics-pol...

TBT to my '21 #dontrankfrey video. Pretty much all still true except strong mayor was passed & he did use his new power to pull a lot of bs. And more people were murdered by MPD, a dept he's now had control of for 8 YEARS!

I'm pumped to vote for @omarfatehmn.com & @dewayneforminneapolis.com today!

In addition to "just give ppl housing ffs" I would love to see MNDOT and the city build small storefronts under overpasses and rent them out super cheap, like what exists in Japan (and once existed in Chicago under the el). Bring back the eyes on the street to desolate spaces!

He thinks the tourist musical theater bus is the only bus in the city

The Uptown in Chicago is less than a mile from where I grew up, it was my mom's photographic obsession and the subject of my 7th grade history fair project in 1995. It had already been closed for 20+ years at that point and now it's been empty for about as long as it was in use. Such a shame.

Random thought, I would like whoever the new mayor of Minneapolis is to spearhead a city flag redesign. We deserve something better. (I don't totally hate the current one but it is at once both dull and overly complex.)

Seriously, just beautiful. I'm really amazed how modern the design is, it would barely look out of place today.

The Parent Teacher Broadcaster is an amazing artifact, apparently MPS was publishing a full fledged magazine in the 30's with beautifully illustrated covers. I wonder if this was WPA related as it seems to have expanded from a basic newspaper at some point in the late 20's.

Also really enjoyed this list of guidelines for good health from the Twin Cities Milk Producers. Honestly all still solid advice except for FOUR glasses of milk a day. FOUR!?

My favorite tip is "eat some vegetables other than potato every day".

Digging around in the Hennepin County Library digital collections again, this ad from a 1930's issue of the Central High News is truly incredible
