The trash picker sounded great to me and I thought it highlighted the difference between building a resilient system that would solve the issue vs making the solution 'personal responsibility' and expecting people to magically be better.

The city then proposed a solution. Buying a trash picker-upper that would run in the morning and help keep the beach clean. However this was no-bueno according to pops. A waste of taxpayer money he says.

Now my father, being an otherwise decent person outside of his horrid political takes, would bring an extra trash bag and fill it up when he went to the beach and would constantly complain about how others weren't picking up after themselves and that he shouldn't have to do it for them
