I already see a bunch of "this is just a distraction" punditry, but try to remember that distractions that are hate crimes are still hate crimes. If someone hates crimes you, it would feel pretty shitty to have a bystander be like "just ignore that, it's a distraction"

No matter how many times Christian Nationalists repeat the lie, it doesn't change the fact: The Bible is not a foundational text of American history and doesn't deserve any special status in public school curricula.

And targeting elementary schoolchildren with this indoctrination is heinous.

This is such a key point. Every time someone says “we need less identity politics” they absolutely mean any identity other than white male. The privilege of being white and male (and conservative) is that your identity politics is considered default or neutral.
White masculinity is an identity, and playing up the defense of it — via the state, via norms, via violence — is identity politics.
