Some death metal recording from a couple weeks ago. Drummer requested no samples be used so we had to like, actually record good sounds. Love that. It’s not my usual genre but it turned out great.

Someone drew another swastika on a lamp in my neighborhood so we turned it into a game of tic tac toe. Forgot to get a before picture but you don’t want to see that filth anyway. (This was before April Fool’s Day so it wasn’t a joke.) Welcome back to Trump’s America.

This has been sitting on my shelf for years and I guess it’s time I read it. And holy hell, right from the start, the rise of the Nazi party and Bolsheviks is *exactly* what the Trump/Musk party is doing now.

The only thing that will get me through the next four years is good music. Took my dad to see David Gray last night, one of our faves. His new record is lovely and poetic. A real songwriter’s songwriter.

Crammed a 13 piece band in the studio for rehearsals for a big event. Last one, then rest! And by rest I mean a different gig of course.

This looks just like the Roger Nichols Designs Dynamizer from the early 2000s with a modern GUI. I wonder if they cloned it or what. That was a fantastic plugin and I haven’t actually seen anything like it since!

Happy heavenly birthday to my old friend and mentor Kent Finlay. I still see you at work every day. I can still hear you say, “Well, Russell, that sounds real good.” The CD on the wall and signature red bandana help keep my head on straight.

Brin often curls up here when I’m having guitar time on the couch. When she falls asleep I know I have something good. Or she’s tired.

Or if you really want to go all in on low volume, Kelly Willis at 80dBSPL. Her softer songs measured around 75

Granted this is an exceptionally low volume gig. There are vendors that have to be able to talk to customers. But the point is you can mix reasonable. It actually sounds better when your eardrums aren’t distorting. Imagine that! This is what Tomar and the FCs at 84dB sounds like:

This is show goals right here. Averaging around 84dB at FOH, and this is a funk band. I can feel the bass but don’t need earplugs. Wish I’d measured the show I went to the other night because it was ridiculous. The 5 seconds I had my earplugs out were painful. It just doesn’t have to be that way.

Mostly up as of mid yesterday. Excited to hear these skinny little L-Acoustics mains with an actual band.

Getting ready for the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar. Here’s the Before clip. One of the few live sound gigs I am doing these days.
