Day 2 of #ChemAdvent24 looks at how a colour-changing indicator can be made from festive poinsettia leaves.

This is possible because they contain anthocyanins, which undergo structural changes in acidic and alkaline solutions.

Day 13 of posting cool mushrooms every day:

Witch's Butter (Tremella mesenterica) is a brainlike gelatinous mass of a mushroom. It's one of the few mushrooms that will grow any day of the year, usually on softwood decaying logs.

It's edible, however it has little flavor.
