Art historian looking for interesting stories in old master auctions
I previously complained about the closure of the Bergen university museum, section cultural history (until way into the 2030s), but the natural history building had some works on display ( and I bought a brief catalogue as well!)

Bergen has a large collection of Old Norwegian church art, and some European old masters. However, the "Permanente" is only open for exhibitions(!), and the culrural history part of the university museum is closed for renovation. Found one c.1300 altar painting in the end...

Daily photo from the Spanish exhibition at the Sinebrychoff museum in Helsinki. Well, this comes from a private collection, and I haven't noted who painted it, so you'll just have to enjoy the pic without further info.

Short holiday break now, back in 10 days or so with more informational posts...

Why? It's not as if there are a dog and a monkey close by :-D Is that a Rembrandt behind the Van Eyck? Left is a large Francken, I think (depicting Iconoclasm), and right a very early self portrait (Jacon Cornelisz?)

Muller sale, 1926, lot 679: David Teniers II, "Painting gallery", panel, 60*80cm, signed, 3000Fl. It is now in the Courtauld Institute, as a work by Frans Francken finished by Teniers, showing the collection of Peeter Stevens ca. 1640. In the foreground stands Jan Van Eyck's "Cardinal Albergati".

Muller sale, 1926, lot 677: Jan Steen, "Epiphany", canvass, 77*72cm, signed, 5500Fl. While there are many other paintings by Steen of the same merry or rowdy event, sometimes with apparently the same characters, this specific painting seems to have disappeared completely.
