Their example of Ritchie Torres is very explicit. we "expect" this "non-white seat" to win easily, and he gets a negative score because he "underperformed" in 2024

as a master class in liberal colorblind logic, they even added separate weights for demographics to their model, and demonstrate that taking those weights away changes very little. that's because demographics are already baked in. what an incredible argument to make! they prove the point themselves!

lag is blithely taken as evidence of "realignment" without considering any other factors that may have changed outcomes, such as racist voter suppression, covid deaths, or disillusionment with the party. this arrogantly casts peoples' 2016 votes as a mere artifact of confused or ignorant loyalty

they obscure this racism behind a concept of "lag" - if a district turned out heavily for their progressive democrat in 2016, then a bit less in 2020 and 2024, that candidate is penalized
