Opinions you didn't ask for. Mainly on football but expect the unexpected
Very interesting to see this talked about because it was something that wasn't mentioned in Ben Lyttleton's excellent book on penalties but it occurred to me while reading that actually dictating where players should aim could alleviate pressure by transferring responsibility.

Often think about how the most naturally gifted kid at my school came from a, to be polite, 'bohemian' family and was a drug-addled dropout by Year 9. Resurfaced at the Sixth Form induction where he told me he was planning to become a doctor. Never seen again. A horrible waste of talent.

As a committed and practicing heterosexual I'm not ashamed to say that the Pet Shop Boys don't count as a guilty pleasure because they are borderline genius. Now, if you were to say Will Young...

I'm pretty sure the seeding has been intro'd to counter the dynamic I identified here. Although England are benefitting this time, on reflection I'm ambivalent. Partly because it relies on the arbitrary FIFA World Rankings, but also the randomness of the knockouts is a large part of the fun

This is very true. Learning and practice should be 90% feeling pissed off, punctuated by brief Eureka moments. Even more so for things involving motor skills (instruments, sports, crafts).

Lammy, or rather his puppet masters, have gone completely fucking mad. Look at the state of that. A genuine embarrassment to the country.

In an unexpected and unprecedented move, four teams have been seeded by FIFA for the forthcoming World Cup. England have been seeded 4th. Means we can't meet Spain or Argentina until the Semis and France until the Final (assuming all four nations win their groups). Very random but I'll take it...

Yank-brained delusion. The Farage stuff is confected journalism betraying the panic of the Establishment who think he'll win. I'm not so sure. But the fact they don't engage in archaeology of adolescence regarding the teenage Trotskyists who made it to Cabinet shows a rather selective approach.

I remember someone from school later reminiscing with me - to my bewilderment - about how we'd had 'a bit of a rivalry' academically. Literally had no clue what they were on about but I was utterly mortified on their behalf.

It's on the same pathetic level as Hitler was kind to dogs, therefore we shouldn't be kind to dogs. It's not an argument, but a juvenile attempt at a gotcha. I don't know in which half-bake factory they found Bienkov, but they should take him back.

"Names like...Bobby Charlton" is unbelievable arrogance and stupidity. This fella is one of the worst, and most self-aggrandising, football accounts on Twitter and that's despite the stiff, stiff competition.

Was at the Brazil v Senegal game earlier. Vinicus Jr has scary, blistering pace but flags quickly. Some of his mid/LR passing was very good but his finishing is well below-par and as game went on many technical inaccuracies crept in. If he is one of the world's best football is in trouble.
