I write beach reads for people who vacation in the shadow realm. If you make art I want to see it.
We've lost recipes, I remember a time when penguins were athletic equipment.

"Clanker" as an AI slur: 6/10. A little soft, but it's fun to pretend you're in a sci-fi movie set in 2030 but written in 1994.

But calling an AI-enjoyer a "vessel" is 10/10 hating, that's already informing my worldview.

The fact I once would have thought he was dead wrong about this entirely explains why I didn't like his movies from 2010-2020. Couldn't agree more now, and am fully back on the bandwagon.

Now announcing:

PS the live readings are a delight, thanks for orchestrating those. I am neutral on Star Wars, but pro-actor/performance/jokes, and there's so much to enjoy in them.

So many scenes with clerks & cashiers, across all their films, and many different kinds of haggling. Ulysses fails to fast talk his way thru a logistical problem. Rooster Cogburn gets grilled by a lawyer: both enforce the law, but they think + talk about so differently.

The Coen Bros. favorite kind of scene: two people who speak different languages need to make an exchange, and the fun/surprising ways those negotiations can play out. The language usually isn't literal, more like: one guy is performing a routine business transaction, the other is

Does that chain say "Man-Child"? Let me zoom in. God, that's funny. Let me find a higher-res image. Hold on, what is this?

To jump off of that, not only is it not creation, it's *really* not procreation. Take the artist out of the exchange and replace it with your own whims & you quickly enter an aesthetic/emotional death spiral, with no new psychic energy entering the mix.

I'm cool with living on a volcano, but I'm not above getting nervous when the comfy people get nervous. They invented this thing called the NASDAQ that can chart their panic by the millisecond, so they will get a very timely notification to stampede.

MJH is still a blue chipper for me, thankfully.

The hardest captcha for me is security questions that assume there's a chunk of my hippocampus devoted to tracking my preferences over time. I was already saying "green" through gritted teeth when I was a kindergartener and the adults told us to have a favorite color.

The casual evil of this comment made me break out into a cold sweat, and I wasn't even the target of it. (I did agree 80% with it though.)

For comparison, here's the fourth most popular post on that subreddit today, along with its typo-riddled first paragraph. (It goes on for another 763 words.)

LIVE INTERNET THEORY

I was inspired to paint this frankenstein robot because I was thinking about how impersonal & bot-driven the internet of 2025 feels, and how the act of self-repair could make even a synthetic being seem human.

I posted to r/worldbuilding & a robot moderator removed it.

If you're willing to be authentic, either in your expression or in your willingness to meet audiences where they are, you're allowed to be janky, esoteric, slightly boring. If you teleported a major network TV exec from '96, they'd have an aneurysm at the stuff doing numbers on Youtube.

Spent the past 3 hrs drafting an essay called "Art-making in the Slop Era", immediately got lost in the weeds of hyper-intellectualization. But on emotional level, I think it's pretty simple for me: the era of content is stressful because it's really about Content. Can't hide behind technique.
