Different industry constraints require different policy responses, fair enough.

What I do not understand is how we get from 'the state has a claim on an estate containing agricultural land' to 'a special interest tax exemption is the only available policy response'.

Well, four cases and two numbers, to be fair :-)

(Yes, you can have more than two, there are two European languages that still have a dual. And a case system. Some find this horrifying, I find it endearing. But then I'm the sort of oddball that thinks that grammars are shiny and interesting. )

Possibly tangential observation about "bad at maths": Spreadsheets are algebra.
I have startled women realising they can do algebra with spreadsheets.
Frame is sometimes everything, and sexism (and racism) explain a lot.
