It’s interesting that when the UK tried to deport asylum seekers to Rwanda the conversation centered on its human rights treaties whereas in the US-El Salvador case it’s pretty much only about due process.

A couple of chapters in The Hidden Globe talk about offshoring migrants. It’s not a new practice and countries do all kinds of things to get away with it, but this is the most disturbing proposal I’ve seen

It was the perfect time to read The Hidden Globe by Atossa Araxia Abrahamian, great book. If you pair it with How to Hide an Empire and Material World maybe you can start seeing what a sane US trade policy that actually helps normal people looks like.
Every Valley by Charles King is interesting enough but it doesn't QUITE match its ambition. As it turns out this one musical performance does not explain all of British society in the 18th Century but I still learned a lot.
I wish I'd read the Oxford History of the Biblical World at Hebrew School. I wish I'd read it INSTEAD of going to Hebrew School. Just a totally new way to think about the Torah and what it means, I loved it, even if it is (as you may expect) painfully dry.

Given Trump’s admiration of Orban, don’t be surprised if we see rhetoric like this in the US (fwiw it’ll be hard to pull off.)

This citizenship industry report argues that global climate inaction is essentially leaving small and vulnerable countries no choice but to sell citizenship to finance resilience projects … it’s not wrong 🙃

Trump: "We're gonna be selling a gold card. You have a green card, this is a gold card. We're gonna put a price on that card of about $5 million and that's going to give you green card privileges, plus. It's gonna be a route to citizenship, and wealthy people will be coming into our country."
