Unlike Windows, you can completely customize your desktop env. Could make it look like Windows or Mac, or something else.
If you want something similar to Windows and with good UX, use KDE. It's quite nice, albeit buggy sometimes, and super customizable. Mine as an example:

- Launch the game, looks fine
- Start a new game, pick a save file, pick a difficulty
- beginning cutscene plays
- graphics are reset, monitor blacks out, and my other two monitors start getting silly with it
- Can't log out, can't quit - forced to reset

Way I cope with it is just using KDE discover to handle the majority of my updates, since it seems to interface with flatpak/apt/snap/etc. Can't say I'm a fan of using multiple managers, but it's marginally better than windows app updates.
