I yell about reproductive justice, software engineering leadership, knitting, figure skating and costuming, trans rights, mandolins, Atlanta and Mississippi things, harps, and my kids and dog.
We refer to my teenager as “the young sir” or “the young master” when he is being particularly entitled. But both the dogs are female, and they’re poodles, and we’re from the south. It’s just simple etiquette!

Sheep in the morning, prom in the afternoon. Get you some teenagers who can do both.

(Professional photos coming next week, these are just a couple casual snaps)

My teenagers discovered this just this morning when we visited a friend’s mom’s farm.

They also discovered that angry goats will pee when being sheared, and that alpacas don’t have much going on upstairs. Big adventures for us city slickers!

We spent a beautiful April morning in the mountains of North Georgia at a friend’s mom’s alpaca and sheep farm.

If you need to see a blue-haired teenager chase and catch a lamb, well, I’m your huckleberry.

To be fair, here is my basis for comparison. I’m at approximately 5K stones on this top and still not quite done.

Signs you might be a figure skating mom: you worry that your daughter’s prom dress is inadequately sparkly and might need some additional rhinestoning to really make it pop.

Nothing crazy, just a thousand stones or so.

My teenage son is a figure skater. The company who makes his skates has paused all orders for two weeks so they can figure out pricing.

His boots cost roughly $600 a pair (blades are another $200), so those tariffs will be immense.

This is the top I’m wearing today. It’s a basic long-sleeved tee made of a technical knit. Three different machines were needed to make the stitches in this photo.

The line of straight stitching between the two light-blue stripes is topstitching, which can be done on a basic sewing machine.

When you realize that the approximately 10,000 rhinestones you ordered aren’t going to be nearly enough to execute the vision (“sparkly aquatic geodes”, per B)

Neither is the number of available hours in which to glue them all on between now and B’s competition on Saturday.

I got an exceptionally clear economic breakdown of Canadian tariff costs from an underwear company.

They sent out another notice when de minimis was resumed, noting they expect tariffs to return. Top-notch consumer education, honestly.

Long weekend with no unexpected executive fire drills = mandolin spa day.

(We avoid taking off all strings at once because the wooden bridge is movable and repositioning it is annoying)

Ever thought your outfit was reasonably cute when you got dressed in the morning, then realized that you hear Meryl Streep’s voice telling you that it was selected for you by the people in this room from a pile of stuff?

That's pretty much what it is! A harpsichord is just a harp turned on its side and put inside a box. When you press the keys, the mechanism plucks the strings with little picks. Pianoforte turns those into hammers for more volume control, but it's still very harp-like.

Snow accumulation is over performing the forecast in north Atlanta suburbs, with a solid 2” and continuing to fall hard.

No northerners are allowed to laugh, this is very exciting for us!

My tiny dog has a heated dog bed (which sits on top of a regular dog bed). She is rather elderly with bad knees, and I predict today she will only leave The Warm for the briefest possible periods.

There, that’s more like myself. Goodbye straight hair! I will see you in another half decade or so!

It’s literally been six tears since I’ve blown my hair out straight so I thought I should commemorate it. It’s cute, even if it doesn’t feel like me at all!

I just got a facebook reminder that I knit those socks 10 years ago!

I like to think that in person I’m “not totally unfortunate-looking”, in the immortal words of Elle Woods, but I’m absolutely not photogenic.

So what I want to know is this: how did I raise literal supermodels.

Oh my gracious y’all, look at my beautiful daughter, ready for Homecoming.

Play the mandolin, they said. It will be fun, they said.

They did not say anything about what happens to your fingers after a 2+ hour rehearsal.
