Helped me figure out "Ohhh that's where that word comes from" and linking its history, remembering the roots of it, or see how a word was repurposed, depending on the circumstances and time period.

I've more found that Japanese is *just* that way because it acts like English, complete with mugging other languages for their vocab. (And made it easier to understand when put in that perspective.)
